Community Partners Spotlight
Central Singapore Community Development Council (CDC)
Central Singapore CDC and SMU established a vital partnership that focused on community support and youth empowerment. Key initiatives included SMU student volunteers who supported the CDC Vouchers (CDCV) Scheme by assisting low-income households with voucher redemption at community clubs to manage cost-of-living pressures, and contributed to the SkillsFuture Junior Stars Nurture programme that equipped vulnerable children with essential future-ready skills and educational opportunities. The partnership provided dedicated funding streams and resource allocation to ensure sustainable programme delivery and maximum community impact.
Liter of Light
Litre of Light is a global ambassador for UNESCO's International Day of Light that teaches green skills and creates green jobs for communities on the front lines of climate change. SMU students have worked alongside Litre of Light since 2012 through their partnership on Project Luminaire to provide sustainable solar-powered lighting solutions to communities in Zambales, Philippines, while also supporting local education through activities at Sitio Alao Elementary School. From 2023 to 2025, this collaboration has directly impacted approximately 2,861 lives, demonstrating the power of sustainable innovation in transforming communities.
