Now in its 15th iteration, Project Sunshine conducts activities at Na Xath Primary School, including English conversation classes to improve communication skills, sports classes to promote physical fitness and competition, and environmental projects such as solar-powered street lamps, waste management programs, and an eco-garden.
The project was first initiated with the passion to serve and educate underprivileged children from undeveloped countries, with the team settling on Laos, one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia. The volunteering scene in Laos can be seen as less abundant compared to other Southeast Asian countries, hence the project's predecessors decided to venture into this group of beneficiaries.
Over the years, the team has visited various educational institutes in Laos and has stayed true to their core mission of imparting English knowledge to the children there, through fun and interactive methods. Their beneficiaries initially ranged from only primary school students. However, they have gradually expanded their outreach to secondary school students as well.
This project is supported by Youth Expedition Projection (YEP) Grant by Youth Corps Singapore (YCS).
