Project Artis partners with social enterprise Social Gifting to transform crafting skills into pathways for economic independence and social connection for persons with disabilities (PWDs). The project recognises that sustainable employment opportunities for PWDs often require innovative approaches that leverage individual talents while providing comprehensive support systems.
The project's core mission centers on skills development and market access, equipping participants with technical crafting abilities that translate into viable income streams. Student volunteers work closely with home-based crafters to develop product concepts, refine crafting techniques, and navigate online marketing and sales platforms. This hands-on mentorship approach ensures that participants not only develop creative skills but also gain the business acumen necessary for sustainable self-employment.
Beyond economic empowerment, Project Artis addresses the social isolation that many PWDs experience by fostering meaningful relationships between volunteers and beneficiaries. These connections provide emotional support and companionship while building participants' confidence in their abilities and potential. Through this dual focus on skill-building and relationship-building, the project creates a foundation for participants to pursue broader employment opportunities and achieve greater independence in their personal and professional lives.
