Project Heartcode bridges Singapore's digital divide by equipping underprivileged youth with technology skills and educating them about potential career pathways. Founded in 2017, the initiative combines hands-on programming workshops with real-world problem-solving, enabling participants to develop technical capabilities while addressing social issues in their communities.
Through interactive learning experiences, youth explore programming fundamentals and digital literacy while tackling authentic social challenges. The project emphasises online safety awareness, teaching participants to navigate cyber threats including cyberbullying. Beyond technical skills, Project Heartcode educates participants about IT career opportunities, with SMU students mentoring them on educational pathways and industry prospects that can enable financial mobility.
Supported by Mr Ng Kai Wa, Chairman and CEO of InnoMedia Pte Ltd, and partnered with the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC), the project creates sustainable pathways for youth to enter Singapore's growing technology sector.
